Outside Looking In

I want to state that over the past several weeks I have been completely undone as I have watched the hand of God change the lives of a few people I know. Maybe you have been in a similiar situation as you have watched the lives of friends and loved ones encounter the “SUDDENLY” of GOD Words seem to fade as I try to articulate the Goodness of GOD that I have witnessed in my friends lives this past month.

Seemingly overnight He has taken a friend from a state of brokenness and inconfidence to a fiery evangelist who is seeing people healed and delivered almost daily. I have watched as this young man has studied in Bible school and as he has begun to apply the tools he was giving with a passion unlike anything I have ever seen before. It truly is as Jesus said, “Surely these attesting signs will follow those who believe (Mark 16:17).

God’s plan for your life is so much bigger than your ability to miss it.

Likewise, I have watched a dear friend of mine search for answers and seek out God in the midst of HEAVY stresses of life being thrown her way. Although filled with seemingly poor decisions and confronting the consequences therein, GOD has looked over it all to pull her up to shine for HIM. As she has pursued her gifts in the only way she has known how, a door has opened for her to step into the calling placed on her life. I look forward to seeing her continue to grow and advance as she too gives herself wholly to God and wholly to her gifts, from a secular bar scene to a worship platform.

As I reflect on the SUDDEN encounters of these two dear friends of mine, I am left wondering what they have in common that could lead them to such quick and drastic changes in their lives as they run smack dab into the callings placed on their lives. They by far aren’t the most spiritual people out there, and they certainly don’t have the “look” of typical church folk. In fact, the more I think about what these two have done to find their callings, the more I discover that they’ve done NOTHING! The only underlying theme shared by these two individuals seems to be Christ alive in them.

God, in HIS perfect timing has positioned each of these individuals where HE has wanted them to be. GODs plan for their lives – for YOUR LIFE – is so much bigger than their ability to miss it. No matter what behaviors or “sin” seem to have disqualified them in man’s eyes, GOD, in HIS love and grace, sees only HIS Son living in them (1 Cor. 5:21). It is because Jesus is alive inside of them that GOD is able to SUDDENLY encounter them in such perfect ways as to bring them into the callings and destinies placed on their lives before birth (Jer. 1:5).

As I conclude my thoughts tonight, I want to leave you with this thought :

Do not neglect the spiritual gift within you, which was bestowed on you through prophetic utterance with the laying on of hands by the presbytery. Take pains with these things; be absorbed in them, so that your progress will be evident to all. Pay close attention to yourself and to your teaching; persevere in these things, for as you do this you will ensure salvation both for yourself and for those who hear you (1 Tim 4:14-16).

I say this because both of people had spiritual fathers and mothers around them who gave voice to the spiritual gifts that they recognized in each of my friends. My friends never tried to make things happen, they just continued doing what they knew, trying to grow in areas they were gifted in. For one, it was prophesying to himself in a mirror until he felt bold and confident enough to begin flowing prophetically in the streets (about a week). For my other friend, it was to continue performing music the only way she knew how. As she devoted herself to performing, a worship pastor took notice. He recognized a call in her life for worship, and he has since opened a door for her to begin moving in that calling.

In closing, God has predestined you to do GREAT EXPLOITS that bring glory to HIS name. In all that you do, act in excellence and purpose to bring glory not to yourself, but to the Lord. If you have a given talent, pursue it with diligence that you may grow, and that your progress will be evident to all: that those who hear you will encounter the very expression of LOVE, PEACE, and JOY that surpasses understanding.
